ICAN of GC participated in The Birth Expo June 30, 2019, sharing our mission and purpose, “Because 1 in 3 is too many.” We continue to inform and enlighten parents about the 32 percent cesarean rate in the U.S. and ways to reduce their risk. Here is a photo of our exhibit.
At our April 2019 Cesarean Awareness Month meeting, Dr. Brad Stetzer of MetroHealth Medical Center spoke on “Identifying the Challenges within the Medical System to Reduce Cesarean Birth Rates and Increase VBAC Rates.”
At our March 2019 “Induction of Labor: Does it Increase the Risk of Cesarean” meeting, participants learned more about the ARRIVE study (A Randomized Trial of Induction Versus Expectant Management), which claims that early elective induction of labor at 39 weeks has a statistically significant chance of lowering the cesarean rate. This study is still under critique and most professional organizations are cautioning us that the results are not likely to replicated when applied according to usual standard induction practices.
Jaimie Schrock, author of “Brave, Beautiful Birth: Trusting God through VBAC” shared her story of vaginal birth after multiple cesareans at our January 2019 meeting.
